Seattle: A Reasonable Haven

Ever since the 300 Troubles, Seattle has become a new haven for people to come to! If you are a member of the Registered Class, we have many places that you will simply enjoy! Now, we know that you will be curious as to the affairs of 12 years ago, but do not worry about that! We have rebuilt and are welcoming back old and new citizens.

We have a large port which gives us access to the other side of world. However, don't concern yourself with that!

As you can clearly see, our streets are always clean and the air is fresh. All pollution and any possible germs have been filtered out! We are the cleanest and safest area in all the US.

You will not have to worry about any unregistereds milling around our town! Everyone has a job and no radicals are to be found. Ever since Nova Corps came to town, we now have all the jobs one could need. They are also issuing Novadollars for all new comers and young professionals coming to the city!

Seattle is the first American City that is controlled entirely by a private business. Nova Corps, which is multinational corporation likely has a massive conglomerate, holding monopolistic or near-monopolistic control over multiple markets (thus exhibiting both a horizontal and a vertical monopoly). Nova Corps is so powerful that they can ignore State and Federal law. The most shocking aspect that ruins any chance of democratic civil liberties coming back to the United States is that Nova Corps possess their own heavily-armed private armies. Now that they hold 'sovereign' territory, Nova Corps can even act as the outright government.

They often exercise a large degree of control over their employees, taking the idea of 'corporate culture' to an extreme. Nova Corp is one of the few multinational corporations to achieve a large degree of self-governmental control, known as the Seattle Improvement District. Within this district, the corporation has the legal authority to establish its own building codes, power plants, and utilities, fire departments, and to seize land outside the district under eminent domain. The corporation protects itself from outside interference by permitting only Nova employees to own land within the district, keeping voting power to elect district managers (also Nova employees) within company control, and thereby preventing restriction on company actions and projects within the district.
