Unit Zero
Notes on who's who on Unit Zero.
Officially, Unit Zero was established by Joshua Youngsblood in the years after the defeat of Rane to be the elite force of the Category.
Seeing the impressive display that the Sword of Embera had in combat, it was decided that this elite group of mages would be armed with Embera powered weapons. However, unlike the SOE, these weapons do not use an entrapped soul in order to work. This means that they are less powerful than the SOE was but are still very powerful.
It has been decided that at least one of the original heroes that made up Joshua’s alliance will be advise the team at all times. Currently that person is Erin Tenpenny. Her role is fairly limited since she has other obligations to deal with, so she helps when she can.
The Unit in modern times is a force people call for when something big is at stake or a grand decision needs to be made. Like during the time of Joshua, it is lead by a man voted in for his knowledge and power; that being Bill Videlin (whom is Josh’s grandson).
All of the current members have proven themselves to be highly professional and well studied mages, and as expert fighters.
Note on Uniform: The standard Unit uniform comprises of a short caped tunic, trousers, golden buttons and a belt. The uniform is based upon a mix of the Chenoan military and the Paladins uniforms. White uniforms are worn in the summer, while navy blue is worn in winter. One of the most memorable aspects of the outfit is the belt’s plate where members carved their favorite words in Latin.

General Appearance:
Bill has brown hair, unlike his sister Skie’s blue hair (who had her hair color changed due to an accident). He often wears brown or other Earth Tones.
Strengths: He is extremely adept in combat with both swords and magic. As the Seat of the Earth, Bill is very strong as well. He wields the Revolvers of Kishar which fire Embera bullets at high velocities.
Weaknesses: Mostly ranged attacks. His magic is heavily dependent on magical circles that affect a limited region. This means that his fighting style is more focused on using his Embera weapon.
MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
Current Goal/Purpose: He is the leader of Unit Zero. Bill feels that he needs to continue the job of his grandfather in the modern era. He also tries to maintain his mother’s request to keep his younger sister away from combat at all costs. While he loves Skie, he does agree with his mother’s wishes. His more personal goal is to win the heart of Zahava Cohen.
Talents: Capable of grasping multiple aspects of an issue, Bill possess a talent for observation. He has a high level of Charisma, being able to inspire those around him to join a battle and led the men effectively, Resourcefulness.
Dust Devil-This ability creates a whirling tornado of dust centered on Bill that hides him from view and throws projectiles off course. In other words, it temporarily prevents ranged attacks from hitting. The other possibility would be movement speed boost.
Earthquake-Mana cost: Discrete quantity, not continuous. The area directly around Bill (a magic circle) begins to shake violently. This shaking lasts for a short period of time, dealing heavy damage for as long as a foe is over it.
Inabilities: He does not change his mind, once it is made. Bill is very stubborn and is sometimes indifferent to others around him. He plays for keeps and has little tolerance for bioscience. While Skie and Bill are loyal to each other, they maintain little contact with each other since she’s mad at him for listening to their mother and making it nearly impossible for her to get into the Unit.
Fears: Mediocrity
General Personality: Bill is soft spoken, but very firm. He respects those around him and expects the same in return. He's fond of alcohol and is very chivalrous with a soft spot for women. He can be fiercely independent. He is able to accomplish anything he puts his mind to and he won't give up. Bill likes to have complete control over a situation. He is attracted to innocent things, which why he is in love with Zahava Cohen
Inner Personality: Passion, desire and power go hand in hand for Bill. His biggest challenge and test in life is choosing between the power of love and the love of power. Coming to grips with his extraordinary emotional depths and sensitivity isn't easy for those around him. He is different from all the people and this difference has him walking, working and loving to a different beat. Others can often work with Bill, but not really know him. He remains ever secret. His eyes often blaze with feelings that words never express. When one deals with Bill they have to always deal with him on a psychic intuitive level. He often wears a mask. Too often he says "no" when he really means "yes". He has a contrary nature.
Bill is very weary of the games that other people try to play and he’s very aware of it. Bill tends to dominate and control anyone that lets him, or anyone that he finds weak. The person that Bill respects and holds close to him is treated with amazing kindness, loyalty and generosity. On the outside, Bill has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to him. He is known to be controlling and too ambitious but only because he needs control for this makes him feel safe.
Secret: He never reveals these sorts of thing.

HISTORIC BACKGROUND
General History: Bill is the son of Elaine and Samuel Videlin. He grew up in Zeledin City much like most of the members of the Unit, though he stayed a boarding school from an early age. It was mostly during holidays and summers that he got to interact with his sister. Unlike Skie, Bill was always aware that his grandfather was a major hero and has always wanted to emulate Joshua. He graduated from the Military Academy at the age of 22 and became the Head of the Unit by the age of 26. He remains a close ally to Elrik Veyado, whom is the President of the Category.
Present Life: Bill is somewhat antagonistic to his younger sister. This could be for a number of reasons. Skie has proven that she is very skilled with using Embera magic versus standard elemental magic; suggesting that she has a higher level of magical potential than he does. Bill is unsure why his mother decided to train Skie with this knowledge instead of him; especially since he chose a military carrier from an early age. The more likely answer is that he wants to keep her safe. Bill is well aware that war with the Sun Empire is going to happen.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
General Appearance: Aden is the Seat of Fire, and therefore loves to intermingle the colors red and black together. In general, it is highly uncommon to see him wear the regulation white or blue uniforms. As is custom for some humans, he wears his hair longer.
Strengths: Fire is the elemental talent tree that Aden focuses on. Flame magic deals great sustained damage while providing excellent mana efficiency; Mages who mainly invest into this tree are referred to as fire mages. Aiden excels in mana efficiency when combining talents essentially giving him a chance to gain mana back when casting a Fire or other elemental spell. He knows his mana constraints well. Humans mages must manage their mana well. It's a resource they must be aware of. Failing to manage mana well will result in failed attacks.
His main weapon of choice is the Heat Blade. It is not a Soul Arts weapon like the SOE or Sunfire are. This blade simply acts as a catalyst for his powers.
Smoke Bomb: A basic elemental spell that strikes toxic smoke in the eyes of opponents. Doesn’t deliver major damage but can blind a foe for more than five hours.
Fire Strike: A simple spell that can be shot from the hands while using the heat of the air around him, it is a weak attack but effective.
Fire bolt: Slightly stronger than Fire Strike, it wields a much longer range since Aden uses the Heat Blade to increase the spells power. Downside is that it uses up mana.
Fire Wave: The Heat Blade is now at full power can literally cut foes in half using fire. The most mana draining attack in his arsenal.
Weaknesses: He’s the only fully human on the Unit and one of the few full-blooded humans that have willingly become a part of it. He has a high level of magic but can tire out faster than faye do. Aden needs to rest prior to spell casting. When the need calls for a certain spell to be cast, Aden will allow for his thoughts to retreat back into his consciousness in order to obtain it. It often appears that he is in a trance while he is casting. While there is some credence to that, Aden is not so much entranced that he cannot recognize the immediate perils surrounding him.

Current Goal/Purpose: His first and foremost duty is to protect the citizens of the Category nations, which was the reason why he also wants to take down Jason. He is one of the few humans that realize that fayes are very similar to his own race.
Talents: Sword combat, tennis, racquetball, magic and illusion, arts.
Inabilities: Nervous and tense, superficial and inconsistent
Fears: That Jason will be the cause of a major split between the humans and faye in Chenoa, which is a nation that is traditionally hostile to both races.
General Personality: He can talk on any topic under the sun, is an excellent conversationalist and has a witty nature. At times he can be the life of the party and will win people over.
Inner Personality: He is a man with several different personalities. This does not mean that he has multiple personality disorder; rather it means that his mood swings around a lot and often for no reason what so ever.
Secret: He likes Skie’s spunk.

Aden’s family history has always been involved with piracy, though it never interested him. After losing his home to a rival pirate leader named Malden, Aden’s family and their followers began living in Zeledin waiting for the right moment to strike back at Malden and the Thatch. In order to get on the good side of the Category, Aden’s father sent him to train at the military academy. There he became close friends with Bill. Often he’d travel with Bill to his home in the mountains of Zeledin, where he met Skie. Aden joined chatting with her but she never seemed that interested in him. He has a romantic fascination with her, though, always willing to go charging in headlong if he sees someone making her upset.
Present Life:He’s presented himself more than capable as a warrior and friend to Bill. When elections for the Unit were held at the Military Academy, he was selected with the second highest amount of votes, showing that the population of the Category respects him deeply. Aden fears that with Jason’s sudden backlash against the faye will cause his fellow humans to bring back the old prejudices of the old times. He hopes that with his presence on the Unit, that he can be the middle ground between the faye and human realms.

GENERAL CHARACTER STATISTICS
Character Name: Zahava Cohen, most people call her by “Goldie.”
Gender: Female
Species/Race: Mostly Human, 1/16th Light Faye.
Age: 27
Birthplace/World: Nemeutia, Zeledin.
Occupation/School/Grade: Seat of Light, Spellcaster of the Unit
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
General Appearance: Zahava is most often seen wearing the regulation uniform of the Unit. She prefers wearing the white uniform with yellow trimming, saying that she is the Seat of Light. Zahava wears her hair long but in no particular style. Off-duty, she is seen wearing a white coat, a sky blue shirt, and skirts of various colors. She often wears tall boots as well.
Strengths: Zahava’s light-based healing magic is of the highest caliber in the Category, landing her the job of Unit Zero's designated healer. She prefers “concentrated healing magic,” though she's capable of keeping the entire unit up and fighting. Her main weapon is Staff of Sanctitude. It works like a rocket launcher that can fire up to 25 rounds a minute.
Evocation: This spell causes an object to glow like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20-foot radius (and dim light for an additional 20 feet) from the point you touch. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a movable object.
Burning Light Jet-This spell allows the mage to shoot a narrow beam of hot, intense light from her finger. This spell causes little more than second degree burns as actual injuries. When aimed at the eyes, it can cause permanent blindness.
Weaknesses: Her magic is not offensive, it is almost entirely based on skills of healing. Therefore she is often the “target” of enemy fire, it the catch to the fact that she’s the healer of the unit.
MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
Current Goal/Purpose: Zahava’s main purpose is to do her duty on Unit Zero. She takes great pride that she was selected by the Military Academy to be amongst the most elite of all mages, even know her own faye blood is very low compared to most of her fellow allies. Zahava is currently dating Bill. One day she’d like to see his younger sister, Skie make it big and is always willing to support an old friend.
Talents: She likes telling stories, painting, cooking, watching good cinema, and collects clothes from foreign nations.
Inabilities: She loves to sing, though she’s not very talented at it. Zahava has a habit of also singing when Matthias is trying to study manuscripts for his work.
Fears: Bugs in general. She makes Bill stomp on them all the time.
General Personality: Zahava can be a girlie girl at times, at others she proves that she is more than capable of defending herself. Zahava likes having someone to rely on to keep her “safe from the baddies of the world” and likes to flirt with Bill. She excels at the art of fine cooking and has been doing it for years. She can be somewhat of a perfectionist. Most of the time, she prefers sticking to her way of doing things. Overall, she’s very chipper and doesn’t get angry too often. However, when she does, she’s a very dangerous element to mess with.
Inner Personality: "Take care of the senses and everything else will take care of itself." Her attraction to material things is less about the objects themselves than it is about the pleasure they bring to her senses. Comfortable living and working space is important to her, along with nice linens, clothing, food and music. Her outlook on life is usually quite sensible.
Secret: She's convinced that by poking Mel, that will make something magical happen.
HISTORIC BACKGROUND
General History: Zahava grew up in Nemeutia. Her family once had a strong connection with the Light tribe, though as time progressed they maintained closer ties with the humans in the region. This was not out of a dislike of their clan just a matter of fate. Her father and mother were always big supporters of the Category, so Zahava had a close connection with various members of the Unit before the current staff. Zahava wears her hair long but in no particular style. Off-duty, she is seen wearing a white coat, a sky blue shirt, and skirts of various colors. She often wears tall boots as well.
Strengths: Zahava’s light-based healing magic is of the highest caliber in the Category, landing her the job of Unit Zero's designated healer. She prefers “concentrated healing magic,” though she's capable of keeping the entire unit up and fighting. Her main weapon is Staff of Sanctitude. It works like a rocket launcher that can fire up to 25 rounds a minute.
Evocation: This spell causes an object to glow like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20-foot radius (and dim light for an additional 20 feet) from the point you touch. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a movable object.
Burning Light Jet-This spell allows the mage to shoot a narrow beam of hot, intense light from her finger. This spell causes little more than second degree burns as actual injuries. When aimed at the eyes, it can cause permanent blindness.
Weaknesses: Her magic is not offensive, it is almost entirely based on skills of healing. Therefore she is often the “target” of enemy fire, it the catch to the fact that she’s the healer of the unit.

Current Goal/Purpose: Zahava’s main purpose is to do her duty on Unit Zero. She takes great pride that she was selected by the Military Academy to be amongst the most elite of all mages, even know her own faye blood is very low compared to most of her fellow allies. Zahava is currently dating Bill. One day she’d like to see his younger sister, Skie make it big and is always willing to support an old friend.
Talents: She likes telling stories, painting, cooking, watching good cinema, and collects clothes from foreign nations.
Inabilities: She loves to sing, though she’s not very talented at it. Zahava has a habit of also singing when Matthias is trying to study manuscripts for his work.
Fears: Bugs in general. She makes Bill stomp on them all the time.
General Personality: Zahava can be a girlie girl at times, at others she proves that she is more than capable of defending herself. Ivy wears a tan shirt and skirt is spilt at the sides, so that they can be pinned up to act as pockets. Under this she wears long black trousers. Around her waist is a metal belt that allows for her to carry around various vials and beakers full of plant materials.
Strengths: Ivy has control over plants. Vegetation – omnipresent, silent, essential for life, and able to kill, the fauna discounts the flora at its own peril. She has knowledge on how to use to make charms, poisons, potions, and weapons. Ivy is armed with the Bow of Abnoba. When applied to her plant magic, she can make wooden arrows do more damage. She carries a quiver of arrows and a bow she crafted herself. The arrow heads are poison tipped so those she strikes will be immobilized, but not killed. Ivy aims for non-lethal strikes as often as she can. She has vials of more deadly poisons, though

Tree Tell Information- This spell allows a caster to "talk" with a tree, allowing Ivy to "see" what events happened within 10 feet of it (or under its branches for a large tree) during its lifetime. The mage can start her "vision" at any point in the tree's life and she can "fast forward" through dull periods of the tree's history at a rate of up to 1 year per second. However, events that the mage wishes to "see" must be viewed at the rate they happened.
Pollen Cloud - The pollen is created from whatever plants are handy. If there are no plants then the local fungi and molds produce a spore cloud instead. Foes with asthma or allergies will by afflicted by their condition.
Weaknesses: Much like her fear, uncontrolled fires are her biggest weakness. Forest faye tend to be fascinated by the energy and they will try to control it. Of course, fires are also about the only thing that can make her spells relatively useless without the aid of another Unit member.

Ivy insisted on being an alchemist. So her parents made a compromise with the Village Leaders. Their son would go the route of being a soldier for the pirates in Azar. Therefore, Ivy is the aunt of Patience Beauvais.
Ivy is loyal to the Category. Doing her own research, she realized that the Category could always use more magi that were trained in something other than just combat skills. She took the entrance exams, without being from a prominent family.
She soon gained the attention of Elrik Veyado and introduced her to his son, Matthias. They married at the age of 25 after they both graduated.
Present Life: Currently, Ivy and Matt are the first couple on the Unit to have been married before joining. Both have proven their worth time and time again. Overall both of them rarely see combat duty since they both prefer being the “brains” of the team. They spend considerable time apart which annoys Ivy. She’s very active with her teaching, while Matt is focusing archival works within the Category.

Appearance :
Matthias likes too look somewhat flamboyant. Normally, he just sticks to being the quiet smart guy of the group. So he prides himself being the physically weak, but intelligent or clever member. He does not often wear his uniform since he's more often seen studying. He wears glasses and has several earrings.
Abilities : As a Wind Faye and a studier of the magic of numbers, his powers lie within the ability of calculation and wind magic. He can master the "overclock" ability like many of the Twilight Faye use, though his version focuses more on images created his mind versus splitting the power of his brain.
Number of the Mind: Matthias is a skilled warrior that uses his Red Embera to "over clock" his brain, allowing him to forecast how his enemy will attack by calculation. This process is not always successful, especially when fighting multiple opponents at once.
Cloud Walking:A powerful transportation spell, when Matt casts this spell, he slowly rises into the clouds. Once on the top of the clouds, he designates a destination, and starts walking. Travel time with this spell seems completely random.
Cold Wave: This unleashes an Arctic breeze from his hands that can freeze an opponent in place.
Thunderwave: He can control electric waves in the air to form thunder-based missiles.
Sylph's Launchers: This is a large grenade launcher that he received when joining the Unit. When applied with his natural long leaps as a wind Faye, this tool calculates the exact distance the Embera grenade needs to travel to hit it's target. If he uses specialized rounds, it then can also send a paralyzing electrical charge up at an opponent because of the fact that Wind Faye can use thunder spells.
Weaknesses : Unlike most other male Faye, Wind Faye are light weights. This means that he cannot carry heavy weapons. As well, if fighting a larger foe, he can be easily tossed aside. This means that Veyado is solely dependent on using his Embera magic in battle.
Personality : The most reclusive member of Unit Zero, Matthias is rarely seen outside of the Category’s HQ. He is amongst the brightest magi in the Category and thusly, his work gets in his way now. Being a good actor he can change his personality when he needs to but still prefers being away from the action. He is the man behind the scenes, however, his manner of dress are highly flamboyant with reds, greens, and whites. He rarely, if ever, wears the uniforms that most of the other members own. Matthias has a great deal of love for his wife, Ivy.
Equipment : Matthias does not carry much on his person besides his weapon. Most of his information is within the Head Quarters.
History : Matthias is the eldest son of Elrik and Aegle Veyado. In his schooling years, Matthias was more vocal than he currently is. It was at the Military Academy that Matt became friends with Bill Videlin. The two formed a friendly rivalry. In most cases, Matthias out performed Bill. Though neither of them really took their rivalry that seriously. Matt was one of the Category’s top sword fighters and spell casters even before becoming a member of Unit Zero.
The young man was bond for a high rank within the Category and was personally chosen by Bill to be his right hand man on the Unit. Matthias’ wife Ivy is also on the Unit’s roster as the Seat of the Forest. Together, they run an Alchemist’s course at the Category’s training school, when they are not needed for Unit work. .
